Quartz sorting machines

 
The cutting angle of quartz oscillators determines the temperature dependence of their frequency. The Quartz Sorting Machines enable to measure precisely these angles and to sort the blanks according to them. The Omega-Scan method including laser correction is used for the measurement of the cutting angle of the crystal surface with respect to the crystal lattice. The standard EFG machines are designed for AT-cut as well as for SC-cut quartz, which is used for special precision applications. On request, sorting machines for quartz with other cutting angles and for other crystalline materials can be delivered. Quartz blanks

Setup

All machines are placed on a rack with granite plate. The machines are shielded by a plexiglass cover, protecting against X-rays, with door(s) at the front side. The standard setup consists of:

  • 1.2 kW X-ray generator, safety tube shield with fine-focus X-ray tube, Cu anode
  • Scintillation detector with electronics
  • Laser and CCD camera unit with surface-coated mirrors
  • Control unit for stepping motors, sensors, actors and safety functions
  • Control computer (PC) with monitor
  • Software for calibration, sorting, evaluation and diagnosis
The model QSC60L is additionally equipped for laser measurement of both surfaces of the quartz blank.

Hints

*) The precision of the measurement depends on the surface quality of the blanks. Optimum results can only be obtained with well cleaned and lapped blanks. With all the machines, the reproducibility can be increased using multiple measurements (overlays), correspondingly decreasing the throughput.
